Development of Extracts project.
Showing how ideas went from pencils to finals, with some of the inbetween experiments and roughs.
These images broke the mac at uni halfway through my presentation, so it didn’t exactly go well - tutors couldn’t see how or why I ended up with my images…
Handing it all in on Monday - then I can finally get cracking with some personal projects and begin roughs for the D&AD brief that I’d like a shot at :)
Graphic Novel Project.
Tutorial on Monday. I really hope they don’t say no, I’ve enjoyed this and have grown quite fond of it. That, and I’ve sat in front of photoshop for 8hours or more each day for a week working on it.
Needed a day away from my graphic novel project - hoping a fresh eye when I go back to it will show me exactly what I want to do, so today was a bit of a sorting out day. Got my essay printed and bound, bought ink cartridges, etc.
Trying out a few images for extracts - have 2 more in mind that I want to do, but they’ll have to wait for natural light I feel.
Almost there.
Monoprint from my exhibition with Chris last week.
The series of prints were from drawings from found photographs.
Quite happy with how this one turned out - fits the vibe of the book I’m looking at for my extracts brief, so I think I’ll try fitting it alongside some text as a bonus image.
Also had a request from someone to buy this, so it’s my first ever sale of a bit of work. That makes me happy. Hopefully the first of many!
Flat plan of dummy book 3 of my graphic novel university project. Work In Progress.
I would really, really like to say I’m near the end of this, but I don’t know. Going to print these out soon to see how they read, but don’t think I can do any more on this tonight. Turns out, staring at a mac screen for 12 hours isn’t fun, and my hand seems to have mutated into a claw like shape from holding the wacom pen too long. I think that’s a sign that I should take a break. It’s getting there, slowly. Images not final (I don’t think)
Loosely based on a section of ‘The Long Walk’ by Slawomir Rawicz.
Painted digitally over very rough pencil drawings.
Kinda funny how different my two projects for Unit 7 are - colourful digital, and traditional drawing/print with black ink. At least they’re varied?
I need to lie down, my eyes hurt.
Seeing how my monoprints look next to the text.
Also, 2 photos from today’s exhibition, with the ice sheets installed.
Monoprints in the frames, then spray paint on ice in between them.
Pleasantly surprised that the ice melted around the paint - I thought it would run straight away, leaving blank sheets before anyone turned up. But the black paint stayed, and even printed onto the wall, which was pretty cool.
Haven’t got the photos off Chris yet, these are just from my phone at the start of the exhibition, will put some up tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who turned up, made it really enjoyable.
… ‘cool’ wasn’t intended as a pun ‘cause we were using ice. Just realised I wrote that earlier.
Initial rough dummy book for Graphic Novel uni brief.
Working title ‘The Long Way Where’ - inspired by the book ‘The Long Walk’.
I’ve been playing around with placement of panels and colours etc (lines are nowhere near final, just using them as a guide). Managed to cut out 4 pages, bringing it down to a 16 page narrative. Just kinda awkward on a few pages, so need to re-look at those - kinda crammed 2 pages onto one, and it doesn’t flow. But couldn’t really get the sense of pace by looking at separate photoshop files. Wanted to be able to hold it in my hands.
Really helped too, know how I’d like to change bits now! :)
Very much enjoying this project, hopefully the tutor will like it too. I have a crit at 9.30, so we’ll see, but I’m hoping this’ll be ok for now and I can call it a night. Before 1am for a change, which is nice.
